This is a question that gets hundreds of time a day on the internet. We are all aware that today most people would rather jump on the internet to find a service or product then look in the local directory or go shopping. So if you have a business you need a website.

So is it hard to build your own website? It’s definitely not hard I have done it many times now and if I can do it so can you. Just be aware that there are many ways to achieve this so don’t spend too much time researching which is the best – just take action and get your first website up and running.

A simple list of the things you will need to achieve is – a computer, an internet connection, a domain name, some web space, a software package to generate the website and then finally a software package to load that website to the internet.

Once all of these are in place you will need to get to grips with how to use the software, but trust me it’s not too hard, and you will have your website up and running quickly. I have to say the first time I used it I thought it would take me ages but I had my first page of my website up on the internet in about 2 hours, not bad for a non techie.

The software package you will use to generate the website is called web authoring software, it is also referred to as WYSISYG, this stands for “What you see is what you get”, this is good as all you do is design the website and the software generates the code for you. The other software you will need is a package to take the website from your computer to your web space this is called FTP (File transfer protocol) software. These two packages are available free so that means you only have to buy the domain name and the web space which today is not that much.

One other piece of advice, remember that saying “fail to plan and you plan to fail” so take a little time to plan what you want before you start, after all you want your business to look professional.
